Le Corbusier was not his real name, Charles-Edouard Jeanneret-Gris chose his own nickname and today he is known worldwide by his nickname. He was born in Switzerland in 1887, but he studied in Budapest and Paris and later became a French citizen in the Thirties. Modern Architecture has been enriched by his invaluable contribution.
He was pioneer in designing high rise multistoried buildings, these buildings still stand in Europe, North and South America, India and even in Russia as an evidence of his immense contribution in the field of architecture. He was a modern furniture designer too. His skill in architecture helped him to design building like structure in furniture too. The Le Corbusier Sofa was his creation, which is a unique example of this. Unlike Modern Sectional or european sofa bed the frame of the sofa is built externally to hold the cushions inside; these cushions are removable, one at the back, one at the bottom and two on both sides. The frames are of made of polished stainless steel while the cushions are typically made of high quality leather, neatly sewn and piped. Single, double and three seater sofas are now available, basically with the same design. These contemporary furniture are suitable for home, office reception or similar purposes. The Swiss people honored Le Corbusier by printing his image in Swiss currency note.
