Indians, whether they use Indian Rice or bread as their staple food, are well acquainted with use of pulses. Basic use of recipes made of pulses is to take away the dryness of the staple food and make them more palatable by combining pulse gravies, popularly known as dal.
One of the Indian Recipes that is delicious as well as easy to serve is the Dal Fry.. People relish dal fry most while dining with tandoor bread or nan.
Ingredients for preparing dal fry are –
1. One cup each of yellow mung dal, chopped onion, tomatoes finely chopped,
2. 4 teaspoon garlic, 2 teaspoon ginger, one teaspoon green chillies, all chopped,
3. One teaspoon garam masala, red chilly, Turmeric, and Coriander powder,
4. Cumin seeds, salt to taste, coriander leaves finely chopped and oil for cooking.
South Indian Recipes ordinarily have rasam or sambar and not dal fry that is basically a north Indian recipe.
To prepare dal fry heat oil and add jeera and fry it brown. Add onion and fry it golden brown and then add tomatoes, all spices and chopped items into it. Keep it 5-10 minutes on slow flame, then mix well and add dal and then water as per requirement. Cook in a tightly closed pot for some times and again in slow flame for five to ten minutes. Add garam masala and coriander leaves.
