The Oud is an ancient musical instrument and the word meaning of Oud in Arabic is ‘wood’ and also ouds are often makes with wood strips. Different countries have different names for Oud. In Greece Oud is known as outi and barbat is the name of Oud in Iran. The variant design makes the Oud unique and different. Oud is made with oval shape big body with short neck, which is making the instrument more brilliant and attractive. Oud is another form of lute, which is really famous in the western countries, and also name of the lute is derived from Arabic. Mountain dulcimer is also an old instrument.

The Oud is a stringed musical instrument and the Arabs spread the Oud world wide. The look-likes of oud instrument are available from the ancient periods, but the short neck makes the Oud special from other stringed musical instruments. Turkish Oud is also really famous but the inventor of the Oud is still behind the curtain. The modern ouds have more facilities than the old one. In old Oud there are only 4 courses of strings e available but the modern Oud provides thirteen strings. The shape of the Oud is really comfortable for musicians and the back of the Oud is made like slightly bend and not like another string instruments, such as guitar, dulcimer, etc.

Nowadays Turkish Oud tunes are more famous than any other ouds. Ouds are available in different types like Syrian ouds, Iraqi ouds, Barbat ouds, Turkish ouds, Oud qasim, Greek ouds, and Arabic ouds. Darbuka has totally different sound.
